About a week into the workshop with Aichele and Drescher and about 70 sketches later, this is my favorite so far. I’m meh about the line work.
They have been generous with their time and comments and I’m sure I wouldn’t have done anything this interesting without their encouragement.
Two years ago I was accepted into the MFA in Illustration and Graphic Design programs at MICA. Even though I received generous scholarship support, I couldn’t make it work financially and would have ended up at age 59 over 100K in debt. I regret not being able to take those years to truly focus on design and illustration, but it turned out for the best. Still, nearly every day I’ve wondered, what if I could create and omplete my own MFA program?
And now something has happened. Something that made me think I have to try it. And that’s my intent — to immerse myself in the study and practice of illustration for the next 365 days.
I was waiting to create the perfect “plan”. But instead this will be a journey of errors and successes.
Day 365. Signed up for a workshop ”The Power of the Idea” with Monika Aichele and Henrik Drescher via TutorMill. This looks amazing — where else could you get personal pointers and feedback like this from the best illustrators in the world?
One day at a time.
Experimenting with monotype and relief printing. The process is not all that much fun, especially in a studio that topped 95 degrees, but I did start thinking more about shapes and layers. The texture is like letterpress which is also appealing.
